Tony Bolwell Ltd is a long established, proven and trusted family company. In business for more than 30 years, we started life specialising in 3.5T to HGV repairs, refurbishment, MOT work and being an approved insurance repairer.

In the following years, we found that we were attracting the more discerning horsebox owner, who came to us because of both our expert knowledge and experience and also because of the personal attention that we give to each and every client. We are able to offer horsebox repairs, servicing, refurbishments and MOT requirements. We found that we were being asked for more extensive refurbishments to horseboxes, as well as solutions for some of the common practical shortfalls found in many off the shelf horseboxes. From this was born our bespoke horsebox design and build service. Built on a regular lorry chassis, our horseboxes are built from the knowledge that we have of the specific requirements of the modern horse and rider.

Now, in 2026 comes our latest offering: Self-Drive Horseboxes for Hire. The same excellent quality and customer service that our clients just love. Our Hire Fleet

Driving Licence Requirements: Designed for accessibility; these vehicles can be driven on a standard Category B (Car) licence, meaning no HGV or C1 entitlement is required.
Safety & Compliance: Fully serviced with documented regular safety inspections. Hire includes comprehensive insurance, roadside breakdown assistance, and specialist Equine Recovery.
Chassis: Features a strong 2.3L engine, 6-speed manual gearbox, and a dual-camera CCTV system for monitoring your horse and reversing with ease. Three-man cockpit with ergonomic controls and high-visibility seating.
Horse Comfort: Rear-facing travel with a reinforced bulkhead, an easy-lift aluminium ramp, and a spacious open-plan interior with minimal wheel arch intrusion. Large sturdy partition and full height headboard, opening top doors, four large opening windows and roof vent ensure your horse stays cool and calm, complemented by soothing blue travel lighting.
Premium Storage: Includes a large external tack locker for two saddles and a keyless-entry living area with seating, USB charging, and ample cupboard space.

Tony Bolwell & Son Ltd, have now developed a retrofit Air Assist Kit that can be fitted to under slung ramp spring installations. The system adds additional push force equivalent to 500kgs to the ramp, turning a very heavy ramp into a ramp that can now be closed with ease. Contact us for more details.
